The II. International Gerontological Perspective Congress was held in order to bring together the views of many fields from the gerontological perspective and to follow both national and international developments in the field of ageing. In the two-day congress, the opening speeches were carried out by our Rector Professor Dr Fethi Ahmet Polat, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Professor Dr Hüseyin Kırımoğlu, Founding President of the Gerontology Department of Akdeniz University Professor Dr İsmail Tufan. The opening speeches were concluded with the speeches of Elmas Esra Ceceli, General Manager of Services for the Disabled and Elderly, and Dr Mehmet Efe, Head of the Gerontology Department.
In the congress, expert academicians from countries such as Türkiye, Ireland, Germany, Czech, and Slovenia discussed the issues of ageing and old age in a multidisciplinary manner. One of the prominent topics of the congress was the concept of an age-friendly university and the studies carried out in this field. In addition, it was seen that many subjects such as social services for the elderly, social policies, health, quality of life, ageing perception, political participation, and pet ownership were examined in relation to ageing.
